Read Your Bible 2021
It's time for me to think about what approach I'll take to reading the Bible in 2021. Hopefully, you're thinking about it as well. There are literally hundreds of plans for reading through the bible. Let me share two general methods I've found helpful.
1. Use a simple reading plan like https://bibleinoneyear.org/ or https://www.readscripture.org is the easiest way to get started. If you're new to the Bible, consider taking two years to read it. The experience is even better when you invite someone else to join you on the journey. Consider checking in once a week to see how it's going and what's standing out to you from the text. Be sure and celebrate together at the end of the year.
2. Reading through a Study Bible. This is probably my favorite route to take. I've read through many of them over the years, including the Spiritual Formation Study Bible, the Full-Life Study Bible, the Spirit-filled Life Study Bible, and the New American Standard Study Bible, to name a few. I usually mix up the translations as well. The Life Application Bible would be a great place to start. This year I'm going to read through the Mission of God Study Bible by Ed Stetzer and Philip Nation.
The most important thing is being intentional about reading the Bible and asking yourself these questions, what is it saying to me? And what am I going to do about it? At the end of the day, the Bible should help us know Jesus, be like Jesus, and share Him with others.
